Long Island City Mercedes-Benz M-Class | Queens Used Luxury Car Dealer
Of course a Mercedes-Benz is a German car, but the M-Class is more like an American born relative. Built and primarily sold in the United States, this pioneering luxury SUV has been getting better and better. The first-generation Mercedes M-Class was unveiled in 1998, but struggled with some initial quality control issues. In 2002 the M-Class was reworked with new parts, new design and a new attitude. The ML500 replaced the original model ML430 as the V8 offering, and the ML350 replaced the V6 ML320. Exterior style refinements included new bumpers, clear-lens headlights and restyled mirrors. The US market had not seen a high-performance luxury SUV until Mercedes debuted the ML55 AMG (2000-’03). Available as a limited run, this high-end ML boasted a sport tuned suspension and a 342 horsepower, 5.4-liter V8.
The second-generation M-Class was produced from 2006-’11. This generation was introduced with only two trims – the ML 350 and the ML500 (later the 550); both carried over from the previous generation, although substantially improved engineering makes a pre-owned purchase most viable from 2006 forward. Significant additions during this generation included the new BlueTec diesel and ML450 Hybrid ML450 Hybrid, a gasoline-electric hybrid co-developed with BMW and General Motors. It ran on a 3.5-liter V6 and duel electric motors. Reviews from this era saw positive feedback, as the M-Class continued to successfully convey the durability and quality one demands from a Mercedes-Benz. In the cabin there was ample space, relaxing multi-contour seats and premium materials, which only made the blissfully smooth ride even more impressive.
The current M-Class (2012- ) has four trim levels, delineated according to their engine: ML250 Bluetec with 2.1 liter diesel, ML350 with 3.5 liter V6, ML400 with turbocharged 3.0 liter V6 and ML63 AMG. All are equipped with a seven-speed automatic and all-wheel drive (“4Matic”). The standout in the family is the dynamic ML63 AMG, which earns deserved swagger with its turbocharged 518 horsepower/5.5-liter V8, active roll stabilization, sportier suspension tuning, 20-inch wheels, stronger brakes and special interior trim.
