Acura is a luxury automaker known for making cars with notable levels of elegance, amenity, and performance. Honda first unveiled the Acura brand to the U.S. market in 1986, making it a relative newcomer – but one who has made great strides in a short period of time. Honda created the brand in a move to establish a distinct luxury division for its products. With the introduction of the Legend sedan and the Integra sports coupe and sedan, Acura was presented to the North American marketplace. As the first authentic Japanese luxury car sold in America, the Legend led the Acura brand to spontaneous success, with drivers quickly adopting the idea of a sophisticated automobile-backed by the reliability and durability of the Honda reputation.
In 1991, Acura introduced us to the NSX sports car, made entirely of aluminum and attaining the performance of exotic cars, while forgoing the steep price tag. As Acura’s product line grew in the 1990s, the well known and loved Legend and Integra names were replaced with alphanumeric monikers, which some considered a risky move given the popularity of the brand. As they crossed over into the 2000s, Acura once again revitalized the product line, and announced an all-new family friendly MDX SUV, which boasted features not generally seen in a luxury car. The Integra was replaced with the RSX sport coupe, and an all-new entry-level sport sedan called the TSX followed. The midsize TL sedan, arguably the most popular Acura of the line was also redesigned, as was the signature RL luxury sedan. Acura continued to provide cars for multiple niches, adding a street-performance-oriented RDX compact crossover, the TSX wagon and the ZDX, a fastback-styled over crossover. Although it is sometimes a little hard to pin down what Acura will do next, there is one thing no one will dispute – their compelling blend of quality, automation, performance and value.
In the end, perhaps the most striking feature of the NY Acura line has been its ongoing commitment to innovation in automotive design and engineering. For twenty years, a cultivated knowledge of artistic taste and precision manufacturing has resulted in industry leading advancements. Groundbreaking technologies including Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®), Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC®), and the Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) structural design, has kept Acura at the forefront of the luxury class. The end result of all the tweaking, redefining and innovating has been a spectacular lineup with inspiring performance and painstaking attention to detail.
